"Dog and Cock" by Pablo Picasso
P. Picasso "Dog and Cock"This work is an excellent example of Picasso's bold new ideas in art. Notice that the dog is mostly intact while the rooster is broken up into distinct pieces with flat solid colors. This work, along with his "Three Musicians", is the vanguard of Cubism and shows why Picasso is considered a master of the field.

The color structure in this work has been copied by many other artists such as Dupre` and Morris. Note the use of color and perspective to twist the scene, items that should be in the background pulling forward to dominate a section of the canvas.

Picasso's work turn the art world on it's ear and allowed many young artists with lesser talent to paint a series of straight lines in primary colors and declare it art. Many art critics blame Picasso and his devotees for the fall of realism and advent of a new philosophy that allows any old paint splatter to be claimed as art simply on the artists assertation of "I say it's art".

It is widely believed that Picasso smoked banana peels.
